The big day has finally come--it's Saturday, 6/28 and we're busy preparing for the shuttle to LAX. Good news---the shuttle called and said they were picking up earlier than scheduled. I was so glad we wouldn't be late for the airport. Little did I know that when we arrived at noon for our flight, it had been delayed for 2 hours. That should have been a sign to me of the way the rest of the day would unfold. Let's just say I won't be flying British Airways again. I won't go into great detail, but as a result we missed 2 connecting flights from London to Paris and arrived in London 8 hours after our scheduled arrival of 2pm. If you've ever been in Charles DeGaulle airport at 10pm on Sunday evening, there's not much going on and even less people around. We couldn't find anyone to meet us or any BA reps. Finally, using part French/English, had an airport person call us a cab to the hotel. 55 Euros and 20 minutes later, we arrived tired and hungry at our hotel---the Mercure Tour Eiffel Tower Suffren. Staggering in with luggage, I almost laughed when the desk clerk said he didn't have a reservation for us under Brendan tours. Noting the expression on our faces, he did some more checking and finally found our reservation under Tralfalgar? Oh well, who cares, I just wanted a room at that point. We found our room, by this time it's after 11pm, and decided we had to do something as not to waste our first night in Paris.
So,stepping outside our hotel, how could we resist this sight?

Sitting under the tower eating popcorn and ice cream---a fitting end to the first day of our trip!
